October 2012
Hey Volunteers,
Happy Fall! If you haven’t been out to the parks over the last few weeks, you’re missing a great show of colors. The parks will be at their most beautiful over the next month, so now’s the perfect time to take in the views by grabbing a shovel and a pair of gloves to keep Pittsburgh’s best backyards healthy and beautiful. Volunteering with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is a great way for people of all ages to give back to the parks and ensure that future generations will enjoy the same thriving green space.
We have 4 volunteer days coming up and we need your help! The details are up on our website – www.pittsburghparks.org/volunteerdays – where you can register as an individual or for a group. As you’ll see, we’re making another big push to plant 125 trees in each park with areas threatened by Emerald Ash Borer and Oak Wilt disease. We’ll also be performing trail work and battling invasive species.
We know a well fed army works hardest, so lunch is on us after you’ve worked up an appetite. All volunteers should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and clothing for rain-or-shine, and as always, we’ll provide the tools, gloves, and instruction. Let me know if you have any questions, otherwise, I’ll see you out there!
Cheers,
Taiji
